Same-day registration and voting

Same-day registration allows a voter to register for the first time or update their existing registration on the same day they vote.

Note: The same-day registration period online begins the day before early voting and goes through election day.

Same-Day Register In-Person

To register and vote at the polls on the same day, you’ll need proof of identification. This can be either your:

  • Nevada Driver’s license

- OR -

  • Nevada ID card

If your driver’s license or ID card does not have your current residential address, you will also need proof of residence. Below are acceptable items for proof of residence:

  • A military identification card;
  • A utility bill, including, without limitation, a bill for electric, gas, oil, water, sewer, septic, telephone, cellular telephone or cable television service;
  • A bank or credit union statement;
  • A paycheck;
  • An income tax return;
  • A statement concerning the mortgage, rental or lease of a residence;
  • A motor vehicle registration;
  • A property tax statement;
  • Any other document issued by a governmental agency; or
  • A tribal identification card if...
  • The full legal name of the holder of the card;
  • The date of birth of the holder of the card;
  • A unique number assigned to the holder of the card;
  • A digital photograph of the full face of the holder of the card;
  • The address of the principal residence of the holder of the card;
  • A physical description of the holder of the card, including, without limitation, the height, weight, hair color and eye color of the holder of the card;
  • The usual signature of the holder of the card;
  • The date on which the card is issued; and
  • A reference to the tribal government which issued the card
Same-Day Registering Online

You can same-day register online. However, if you register or update your registration online, you must ALSO go in person to the polls and show ID to cast your vote.

Step 1: Request your ballot ASAP HERE

  • Must first be registered to vote

Step 2: Fill out your ballot

Your ballot contains two envelopes: (1) A secrecy envelope and (2) A return envelope  

  • Step 1: Vote by completely filling in the circles on the ballot using either blue or black ink
  • Step 2: Once filled out, put your filled-out ballot into the secrecy envelope and seal
  • Step 3: Put your secrecy envelope into your return envelope
  • Step 4: Read and sign the oath
  • Step 5: Your ballot is ready to send

  • Mail it in: Stamp and use the pre-addressed envelope mail in your ballot

What type of ID DO i NEED?

If you are a first-time voter

If you are a registered first-time voter, below are the acceptable ID to vote In-Person or By Mail:

  • Nevada Driver’s license
  • ID issued from the Nevada DMV
  • U.S. passport or passport card
  • Employee ID card issued by U.S. Government, State, County, Municipality, Board, Authority, or other subdivision of Nevada
  • Pilots license issued by the Federal Aviation Administration or other authorized agency in the U.S.
  • U.S. Military ID card
  • Valid Veteran ID card issued by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration
  • Medicare or Medicaid card issued by the U.S. Health Care Financing Administration
  • Certified copy of birth certificate issued in the U.S.
  • Certified copy of naturalization
  • Valid student ID card issued by an institution of higher education in Nevada
  • Valid ID issued by a federally recognized tribal government certifying tribal membership
If you are NOT a first-time voter

If you are not a first-time voter, you do not have to show ID.

  • A provisional ballot is a special kind of ballot given to voters who can't provide the necessary documents required by federal law in Nevada to vote at the polls.
